A high altitude, Mach 3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft, the SR 71 was truly untouchable. Any threats were simply outrun and evaded, 12 were lost to accidents and none to enemy action. The aircraft entered service in 1966 and was finally retired by NASA in 1999.
