A holophote on board HMS Imperieuse Size:L: 80 x 60cm 'How Tristram abode at theA holophote on board HMS 'Imperieuse', 1896. A holophote is a lamp which incorporates lenses or reflectors to collect the light and throw it in a particular direction. They are used in lighthouses. Launced in 1883, HMS 'Imperieuse' was an armoured cruiser. From 1896 until 1899 she was flagship of the Royal Navy's Pacific Station. A print from The Navy and Army Illustrated, 12th June 1896.
