Instituted on 1 May 1840 by Grand Duke Ludwig II. Type II. (1849 1918 Issue). A silver cross patte with white enamelled arms, centre obverse presents a left facing golden bust of Philip over a blue enamelled field, circumscribed by a white enamelled ring, bordered and set in Gold, bearing the inscription SI DEUS NOBISCUM QUIS CONTRA NOS (IF GOD IS FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US), reverse centre
