The work is inscribed in pencil: 'Iron chest given to RS by Mr. Ball a founder about 1663 for documents Weld's History VOL. P. 171.' With an instruction to the printer: 'Reduce to 3 'wide.' Inscribed in pencil lower right: 'Butterworth Savoy House 115 Strand' Drawn for an article by Herbert Rix (1850 1906), assistant secretary of the Royal Society. The illustration
