Constructed of blackened magnetic iron, the obverse bearing a raised personification of death in the form of a skeleton affixed to a pair of skis and wielding a rifle mounted to a bipod (in reference to the mountain combat characteristic of the Italian Front), the reverse bearing a raised inscription of DEM HERZOG VON AOSTRA (TO THE DUKE OF AOSTA, in reference to Prince Emanuele Filiberto, commander of the Italian Third Army), situated
