Hesse, Grand Duchy. A General Honor Decoration, Type III Archive Powers recalled that in 1937(Allgemeine Ehrenzeichen) Instituted 25 September 1843. 1894 1918 Issue. A circular medal constructed of silver, the obverse bears the left facing bust of Ernst Ludwig, circumscribed by the inscription ERNST LUDWIG GROSSHERZOG VON HESSEN, the reverse centre presents the inscription FR KRIEGSVERDIENSTE (FOR WAR MERIT) encompassed by a laurel and oak wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, with loop for suspension on a blue ribbon with red stripes,
